Hobbit Hole Miniature

For this project I was assigned the task of building any physical film effect I wanted as long as it could fit into a square ft box. I chose to build a miniature of a section of Bilbo Baggins' home from The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings. I built it to 1:36 scale to allow it to fit inside a square ft, meaning the bricks around the windows and doors are around 2 mm by 5 mm. Once the model was completed I edited a background in of 'The Shire'. The video contains a slideshow of a few photographs of the model and a short video of the model in which I tried to give it a time-lapse effects by holding a fan on it whilst filming on order to make the bushes vibrate quickly, I then added a time-lapse video of a sky/sun-rise behind it and adjusted the lighting as it progresses.

More information on how it was built at: http://buildingthehobbithole.blogspot.co.uk/

Band Video Promo

This is a short promo video for one of my band's demo songs. I filmed each of us individually against a green screen playing our instruments whilst wearing green morph-suits and gloves showing only our heads. I then removed the green and edited us together. Some of the band members were playing along to the song at either half speed or double speed and then the footage was either slowed down or sped up to make it appear like they were playing along to the track at the correct timing in either fast or slow motion. Star time-lapse footage was then added as a background and the video was edited with subliminal cuts where things change for a split second, for example band member's heads switching over.

Teleportation Room Miniature

For a multi-year project on my university course, the second and third years combine to replicate and bring to life scenes from digital footage. A scene we chose featured a man in a teleportation room sat at a desk where a green hologram arises from. I was given the task of building the miniature of the room which then had a digital desk and hologram added. I then filmed an actor in a chair against a green screen and keyed him out and placed him in the scene.

Lego Car Animation

For a recent project I had to create a short digital animation. I chose to create the scene of a Lego car driving around a computer desk. I started by creating the 3D models and texturing them. Once this was complete I animated it by moving certain objects and setting key-frames at certain points throughout the animation. I then animated the camera to follow the movements.

Clay Model

As part of the physical side of my Special Effects course I was given an assignment to design a 'monster' character that was suitable to its environment and fitted its description given in the brief. The brief specified that the 'monster race' were tall and muscular and far from advanced in technological warfare weaponry. It also specified that their natural habitat was on land but it captured its food source from the sea, therefore I decided to give him webbed feet for speedier swimming to catch prey and a mouth which opens very widely in order to catch a large amount of fish similar to a basking shark. I then had to build a scale model and a full-sized head as if it were to be worn by an actor.

Digital Bass Guitar Model

For the digital side of my Special Effects course we had to make a digital 3D model using the software Maya . We then had to add a background and lighting and produce a total of 3 rendered images. I chose to make a model of my Epiphone Thunderbird bass guitar.

Windmill Miniature

During my university course we were given a brief which stated that we had to build something from the video game Skyrim as if it was being made into a film. We could build any item whether it be a miniature, a prop or a costume etc. I chose to build a miniature of a windmill seen in the game. I also built the front section of the house on the left of the image and the rock on the right. I then edited these into the original image to give it a sense of scale. Below is the orthographics I drew to help me keep the build in scale.

Impossible Cube

As part of the 3D Design section of my Art & Design foundation course I chose to build a real-life version of the impossible cube seen in M.C. Escher's Belvedere.

Colour Photography

During my A-Level Photography course I was assigned a project focusing on colour. This was one of my favourite photographs I took.

PC Desk

As part of my A-Level Product Design course I was assigned the task of designing and building a 'commercially available' item that would be suitable for a mass-market. I decided to build this PC desk that comes in flat-pack packaging along with assembly instructions and all the assembly equipment e.g. cam locks.

Aztec Queen

For a GCSE Art and Design project I had to design a restaurant logo and apply it to such things as labels for wine bottles and menu's etc. This was a drawing I did for a section of the logo.
